FAQ

Do I need a referral to see you?

You do not need a physician referral to see a therapist. However, there are some conditions where you will need to be cleared by your medical provider prior to receiving treatment. Please let us know about your referral or script if you have one. You will be required to obtain a script within 30 days after your Initial Evaluation.

Is it covered by my insurance?

Bliss Physical Therapy and Pilates is an out of network provider. You may be eligible for reimbursement from your insurance provider if you have out of network benefits. You can also use HSA/FSA funds for your visits. I suggest calling your insurance company and confirm your benefits.  As an out of network provider there are no surprises. You pay for your visit at the time of service. No surprise bills later!

What should I expect during my first visit?

During the initial visit, we will review your medical history, current injury, perform a physical exam, special testing to identify contributing factors to your symptoms and develop a personalized treatment plan. If being seen for a pelvic health diagnosis an external exam may be performed during the initial session with your consent, as well as flexibility and strength testing. An internal assessment may be recommended but is never required at any visit and is only performed when patient is comfortable with their consent. Once the exam is finished, we will discuss findings and formulate a plan of care. Home exercises are typically given to perform between visits. Subsequent visits vary depending on the initial exam findings and plan of care.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Please wear comfortable clothing you can move around in as well as loose clothing to be able to expose the body part being assessed/treated.

Should I be doing Kegels? I have been doing them and my symptoms have not resolved!

Many individuals have tried Kegels in the past in efforts to relieve their symptoms without success. We have found that often times, Kegels are actually not what an individual needs to see results. A person with high tone pelvic floor can worsen their symptoms with Kegels. It is always best to see a pelvic floor therapist prior to initiating Kegels because there might be other treatments warranted instead such as managing intra-abdominal pressure, addressing postural imbalances, improving general strength and regulating breath patterns.

What are the benefits of Pelvic Therapy and Pilates after childbirth?

After delivery, your body is recovering and it takes time to adjust to a new normal. While some women return to physical activity without any difficulty, orthopedic and pelvic floor issues that arise during pregnancy and towards the initial postpartum phase do not resolve on their own. It is best to be cleared by your medical provider as well as get assessed by a pelvic therapist for safe return to function as well as address any orthopedic/pelvic floor symptoms that persist.
